Description 

MX Linux MX-23.2 "Libretto" was released in January, 2024, preceded by MX-23.1, and was available for desktop / laptop computers. The MX-23.2 is based on the Debian 12.4. 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x86-64) versions are available for the MX-23.2. Compared to previous releases, this MX Linux version include some new updates, such as new and updated applications are at the forefront, providing better performance and functionality across various tasks. With the integration of the latest 6.1 kernel, users can expect improved stability, security, and compatibility with modern hardware configurations. Installer updates have been implemented to streamline the installation process, addressing issues such as fstab generation and GUI simplification, while also providing fixes for users using the "toram" live feature.

Introducing two new tools, "mx locale" and "papyrus-folder-colors", gives users additional flexibility and customization options. "MX Locale" enables efficient management of system locale information and default language settings, while "papyrus-folder-colors" adds a touch of personalization by allowing users to create Papyrus-family themes with different folder colors. Additional improvements include the replacement of webcamoid with kamos in the KDE/Plasma ISOs, and with guvcview in the XFCE and Fluxbox ISOs, ensuring better webcam functionality in different environments. Improvements to MX-Comfort-Themes address readability issues, enhancing the visual experience for users. Additionally, the inclusion of the "Build-Essentials" package on the ISO caters to users who require offline access to driver compilation needs. PipeWire 1.0 integration further enhances audio and video handling capabilities. The update also brings a new "MX Linux Desert Landscape" wallpaper option along with several language updates and an updated manual, ensuring broad support and accessibility across diverse user bases.

MX Linux is an free and open source Linux operating system called the midweight and simple desktop OS. It is based on Debian stable branch and is using core antiX components with more software created by the MX community. Installation Instructions

Starting installer in PC (via USB)

Follow the steps given below:

  1. Download the MX Linux MX-23.2 X64 ISO image file from the download section.
  2. Install a USB bootable creation software on your Windows PC.
  3. Plug in a USB flash drive (at least 4-8 GB of space) with your PC.
  4. Open the USB bootable creation software, and select the ISO image file of MX Linux MX-23.2, and start the process.
  5. As soon as done, plug the bootable USB into a system where you want to install MX Linux MX-23.2.
  6. Restart the target computer.
  7. Press the boot device menu key and select USB to boot first.
  8. Select USB device and start the MX Linux MX-23.2 installer.

Starting installer in VirtualBox

  1. Download the MX Linux MX-23.2 X64 ISO image file from the download section.
  2. Launch the Virtualbox application on your computer, and start creating a new virtual machine.
  3. Select type 'Linux' and version 'Linux 2.6 / 3.x / 4.x (64-bit)' for the virtual machine.
  4. Start VM and when it asks to select the Host Drive, then select the downloaded MX Linux MX-23.2 image file in step 1.

Last step

As soon as you get to the MX Linux installation screen, follow the steps below:

  1. Press enter the MX Linux name highlighted, it will take you to the live session.
  2. Check the MX Linux MX-23.2 in the live session, and if you're ready to install, just click the 'Installer' shortcut in the desktop screen.
  3. Accept the terms and go ahead.
  4. On the Disk Selection screen, select the disk you want to install, and go to the next. (Note - This will erase all your data from your disk, please backup if any important data is present)
  5. Go ahead, format the disk and wait for your installation.
  6. Finally select to install the GRUB bootloader.
  7. Now setup your computer with information such as name, domain, language, timezone, default user account, root account password, etc.
  8. Reboot the computer and enjoy.
